Olympic Champion Han Cong Reflects on Retirement and Boosting Winter Sports in Asia

Olympic gold medalist Han Cong recently carried the Olympic Council of Asia’s flag during the Opening Ceremony of the Asian Winter Games. The figure skating legend opened up to Sports Scene about his experience, the growth of winter sports across Asia, and his life after retirement.

“I’m honored to have carried the flag,” Han said. “It’s a symbol of unity and progress for winter sports in our continent.”

Han, who clinched pairs gold with longtime partner Sui Wenjing at Beijing 2022, believes that the future of winter sports in Asia is bright. “More young people are getting involved, and we’re seeing new talents emerge from different countries and regions,” he noted.

Since retiring, Han has dedicated his time to mentoring aspiring athletes. “I want to give back to the community that gave me so much,” he shared. “Coaching allows me to pass on my experience and inspire the next generation.”

As winter sports gain momentum in Asia, legends like Han Cong continue to play a pivotal role in fostering talent and enthusiasm among youth.
