Bayern Score Late to Edge Celtic Ac Milan Dumped out

Alphonso Davies’ Late Goal Sends Bayern to Champions League Last 16

Bayern Munich clinched a dramatic spot in the UEFA Champions League last 16 after Alphonso Davies scored a last-gasp equalizer in the 94th minute to secure a 1-1 draw against Celtic on Tuesday. The result gave Bayern a 3-2 aggregate victory over the Scottish side.

Trailing 1-0 since the 63rd minute, Bayern looked set for extra time until Davies emerged as the hero. With star striker Harry Kane sidelined due to injury and time running out, Davies tapped in a rebound after Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel saved Leon Goretzka’s header.

“We had the ball on the edge of the box, so I just went into the box and didn’t think too much,” Davies said after the match. “I just put a foot out, and it went in. This is football. The scoreline is what it is. The most important thing is that we advanced.”

The Canadian international had missed three of Bayern’s previous four Champions League games due to injury. Bayern’s coach, Vincent Kompany, praised Davies’ impact, saying, “It’s impressive. He worked hard with the rehab team and medical team. We’ve immediately seen what he offers for the team.”

Bayern will face either their German rivals Bayer Leverkusen or Spain’s Atletico Madrid in the last 16.

AC Milan Knocked Out by Feyenoord

In other action, AC Milan were eliminated from the competition after a 1-1 draw against Feyenoord in the second leg of their playoff, resulting in a 2-1 aggregate loss. Milan’s hopes were dashed when Theo Hernandez received a second yellow card, leaving the Italian side down to ten men.

Feyenoord will advance to play either Inter Milan or Arsenal in the round of 16.

Club Brugge and Benfica Advance

Belgian side Club Brugge made history by becoming the first from their country to win a knockout tie in the Champions League era. They secured a 3-1 victory away to Atalanta, winning 5-2 on aggregate to advance to the last 16.

Meanwhile, Benfica reached the next round after a thrilling 3-3 draw against Monaco in Lisbon, giving the Portuguese team a 4-3 win on aggregate.

The Champions League last 16 draw is set to take place on Friday, with several intriguing matchups on the horizon.
