China’s Han Mei and Ning Zhongyan Win Bronze at ISU Speed Skating World Cup

China’s speed skating team made a strong impression at the ISU Speed Skating World Cup in Heerenveen, Netherlands, as Han Mei and Ning Zhongyan both clinched bronze medals in their respective 1500m events.

The competition, which began on Friday, featured intense races in the men’s and women’s 500 meters and 1500 meters. In the women’s 1500m final, Han Mei delivered a remarkable performance, finishing with a time of 1 minute and 54.52 seconds. She narrowly missed silver, with Japan’s Miho Takagi finishing just 0.53 seconds ahead. The gold medal went to the Netherlands’ Joy Beune, who crossed the finish line in 1 minute and 53.70 seconds.

China’s presence was strong in the women’s event, with teammates Yang Binyu and Yin Qi securing 5th and 6th places, respectively, demonstrating the depth of talent in the team.

On the men’s side, Ning Zhongyan showcased his speed and endurance, completing the 1500m in 1 minute and 44.38 seconds to earn the bronze medal. Norway dominated the podium with Peder Kongshaug taking gold and Sander Eitrem securing silver.

In addition, Chinese skaters Lian Ziwen and Gao Tingyu delivered impressive performances in the men’s 500m Group B Final, finishing third and fourth, respectively.

The strong start by Chinese skaters heralds a promising season ahead as they compete against the world’s best in speed skating.
