Yatai manager Xie Hui, returning to face his former club where he once served as assistant coach, watched as his side created several promising counterattacks in the first half but failed to capitalize on their chances.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 54th minute when Leonardo’s powerful strike rattled the post, allowing Feng Jin to seize the rebound and put Port ahead. The Brazilian striker Leonardo then sealed the win eight minutes into stoppage time with his maiden goal for Shanghai Port, taking advantage of Yatai’s defensive lapses.

In other action, Shandong Taishan secured their first win of the season in emphatic fashion, crushing newly promoted Dalian Yingbo 4-1 at home.
