In a thrilling all-Chinese showdown at the WST World Grand Prix in Hong Kong on Wednesday, Xu Si staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Ding Junhui 4-3, securing his spot in the second round.
Ding, 37, took an early lead by clinching the first two frames with impressive breaks of 81 and 50 points. However, the resilient Xu Si fought back, leveling the score at 2-2 after a series of precise shots.
The fifth frame saw Ding regain the lead with a century break of 108, showcasing his veteran skills. But Xu Si was undeterred, responding with a solid break of 81 in the sixth frame to level the match once more.
In the decisive seventh frame, Xu Si maintained his momentum, winning 67-4 to seal the victory. This marks Xu Si’s second triumph over Ding Junhui this year, following his win at the WST Classic.
Elsewhere in the tournament, Scotland’s John Higgins edged past England’s Ali Carter with a 4-3 victory. Judd Trump overcame fellow Englishman Gary Wilson 4-2 in another intense match. China’s Xiao Guodong delighted the home crowd by narrowly defeating Wales’ Jak Jones 4-3. Iran’s Hossein Vafaei also advanced, beating China’s Si Jiahui 4-3.
