Neymar is back! After more than a year sidelined from international football, Brazil’s star striker and former captain Neymar has been recalled to the national squad by coach Dorival Junior for this month’s crucial World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina.
The 33-year-old sensation recently made his return to action with his boyhood club Santos, following a long recovery from an ACL injury sustained in October 2023. After departing Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal in January, Neymar signed a six-month contract with Santos, reigniting excitement among fans worldwide.
Brazil currently sits fifth in the South American qualifiers, a position they are eager to improve. They will host Colombia on March 20 before facing arch-rivals Argentina, the leaders of the group, on March 25 at the iconic Monumental de Núñez Stadium in Buenos Aires.
“He played two matches at Santos for 90 minutes. He has also been spared in the last minutes of some matches,” coach Junior commented. “Let’s see how he performs in the run-up to our matches.”
Neymar’s return could provide the spark Brazil needs to climb the standings. Fans are hopeful that his experience and talent will make a significant impact as the team battles for a spot in the World Cup.
