China kicked off the International Skating Union (ISU) World Speed Skating Championships in Hamar, Norway, with a thrilling victory in the men’s team sprint on Thursday.
The Chinese trio—Xue Zhiwen, Lian Ziwen, and Ning Zhongyan—competed fiercely against a strong South Korean squad in the third group. Asian Games champion Ning, skating the final leg, propelled China to first place with a time of 1 minute 18.13 seconds.
The Netherlands secured the silver medal, finishing close behind with a time of 1:18.42. The United States claimed bronze, completing the race in 1:19.23.
In the women’s team sprint, China delivered a solid performance, finishing fifth with a time of 1:30.41. The Dutch team dominated the event, taking gold in 1:25.57. Canada earned silver, trailing by just 1.66 seconds, and Poland took bronze with a time of 1:27.80.
