Chinese badminton players have secured spots in the finals of the men’s singles, women’s singles, and mixed doubles at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) All England Open in Birmingham.
In an intense men’s singles semifinal, World No. 1 Shi Yuqi edged out compatriot Li Shifeng in a thrilling three-game match, finishing 21-9, 20-22, 21-19. The match featured a grueling 62-shot rally, the longest of the tournament so far. Shi will face Lee Chia-hao of Chinese Taipei in the final, after Lee overcame France’s Alex Lanier 19-21, 21-14, 21-17.
In the women’s singles, Wang Zhiyi defeated fellow Chinese player Han Yue with a score of 21-10, 21-19 to earn her place in the final. She will compete against top-seeded An Se-young from South Korea for the title.
The mixed doubles final will see two Chinese pairs competing for the championship. Feng Yanzhe and Wei Yaxin advanced after defeating South Korea’s Lee Jong-Min and Chae Yoo-jung 21-14, 21-18. In the other semifinal, Guo Xinwa and Chen Fanghui bested compatriots Jiang Zhenbang and Huang Dongping 21-15, 24-26, 21-16.
In men’s doubles, China’s He Jiting and Ren Xiangyu fell to South Korea’s Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae in a hard-fought match ending 16-21, 21-13, 21-13. The South Korean duo will face Indonesia’s Bagas Maulana and Leo Rolly Carnando in the final.
The women’s doubles final will feature an all-Japanese showdown between Chiharu Shida and Nami Matsuyama against Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto. Shida and Matsuyama defeated China’s Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning 21-9, 21-17, while Fukushima and Matsumoto overcame Chinese pair Jia Yifan and Zhang Shuxia 21-16, 21-17.
