China’s Sun Yingsha and Wang Chuqin Triumph at WTT Champions Chongqing

China’s table tennis stars Sun Yingsha and Wang Chuqin claimed victory at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Champions in Chongqing on Sunday.

In the women’s singles final, world No. 1 Sun Yingsha dominated her compatriot Chen Xingtong in straight games, winning 11-7, 11-4, 12-10, 11-7. Earlier in the day, Sun had overcome a two-game deficit to defeat third seed Wang Yidi 4-2 in the semifinals.

"I’m very happy to win this championship," Sun said. "From my first match to the last, I felt different things. The enthusiastic crowd, the organizers, the arena, and the atmosphere all felt very good. I’m thankful to everybody for coming to Chongqing and supporting us."

On the men’s side, Wang Chuqin, seeded second, overcame top seed Lin Shidong with a 4-1 victory, securing the title with scores of 11-5, 6-11, 11-7, 11-5, 11-6. This win is set to propel Wang back to the top position in the world rankings next week.

"My performance throughout this tournament has exceeded my expectations," Wang said. "I believe I have matured in terms of mentality, mindset, and approach. Facing a strong player like Lin Shidong, I think I did a great job and maintained a good mentality."

Wang had earlier staged a comeback to defeat Japan’s Tomokazu Harimoto 4-1 in the semifinals, while Lin secured his spot in the final by beating teammate Liang Jingkun 4-1, marking his 100th singles victory in WTT events.

The victories by Sun and Wang underscore China’s continued dominance in the world of table tennis, inspiring fans and aspiring athletes across the globe.
