China’s Zhan Yilian Wins Heavyweight Gold at Women’s World Boxing Championships

China’s Zhan Yilian made a triumphant mark at the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships on Sunday by securing the gold medal in the heavyweight category. Competing in Nis, Serbia, Zhan outboxed Kazakhstan’s Yeldana Talipova with a decisive 4-1 victory in the final match.

Teammate Hu Meiyi also showcased exceptional talent, earning a silver medal in the light flyweight division. Hu faced off against Kazakhstan’s Alua Balkibekova but fell short in a 5-0 bout.

China concluded the championships with an impressive medal tally: one gold, one silver, and three bronze medals, placing them fourth overall behind Russia, Kazakhstan, and Türkiye. The bronze medals were claimed by Cai Yan in the featherweight category, Wang Xiaomeng in light heavyweight, and Wang Lina in middleweight.

The Chinese team sent a strong squad of 12 boxers, competing across all 12 weight categories from March 8 to 16. Their performance highlights the growing talent and competitiveness of China’s female boxers on the world stage.
