China’s Zheng Qinwen Advances to Miami Open Quarterfinals

China’s rising tennis star, Zheng Qinwen, has reached the quarterfinals of the Miami Open for the first time, defeating American Ashlyn Krueger 6-2, 7-6(3) on Monday.

The ninth seed showcased her powerful serve, firing five aces and winning 81% of her first-serve points. Zheng took control of the match in just under 90 minutes, while Krueger struggled with consistency, committing four double faults and securing only 27% of return points.

Next up, Zheng faces a formidable challenge against top seed and World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka, who advanced by defeating defending champion Danielle Collins 6-4, 6-4 in the fourth round. Zheng is aiming to secure her first WTA 1000 title and continue her impressive ascent on the tour.

In other action, Poland’s Magda Linette upset third seed Coco Gauff with a 6-4, 6-4 victory, ending the American teenager’s run in Miami. Italy’s Jasmine Paolini pulled off a remarkable comeback to defeat Naomi Osaka 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 after a grueling two-hour and 15-minute battle.

British star Emma Raducanu continued her resurgence, cruising to a 6-1, 6-3 win over American Amanda Anisimova. Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion, has now won four consecutive main-draw matches for the first time since her Grand Slam triumph.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Alexandra Eala from the Philippines advanced to the quarterfinals after her fourth-round opponent, Spain’s Paula Badosa, withdrew due to a lower back injury. Eala, who stunned Australian Open champion Madison Keys in the previous round, is capturing global attention with her breakout performance.
