The Guangdong Southern Tigers have brought the Guangsha Lions’ six-game winning streak to a halt, securing an 84-74 victory at home in a thrilling Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) matchup.
With the Guangsha Lions comfortably seated at the top of the regular season, their performance showed signs of easing up. The Southern Tigers took full advantage, igniting the court with a 20-5 offensive run in the latter half of the first quarter, ending with a commanding 15-point lead.
Star player Hu Mingxuan extended Guangdong’s lead to 17 points in the second quarter. Yet, the momentum shifted in the third quarter as the Tigers struggled to score. The Lions roared back, with Zhu Junlong sinking crucial three-pointers to tie the game at 46.
Nevertheless, the absence of key players like Hu Jinqiu left Guangsha’s offense lacking. Guangdong regained their composure, stretching their lead once more to clinch the game by a 10-point margin. This victory not only marks their second win in a row but also boosts them to fifth place in the standings.
In other action, the Beikong Royal Fighters edged out the Shanxi Loongs 116-107 at home, celebrating their third consecutive win. The Qingdao Eagles soared over the Xinjiang Flying Tigers with an impressive 106-82 triumph, extending their winning streak to four games.
Meanwhile, the Shandong Kylins, holding the third spot in the league, dazzled in the second half to secure a comfortable 105-80 away victory against the Sichuan Blue Whales.
