Miami, Florida — Novak Djokovic is proving that age is just a number. The 24-time Grand Slam champion surged into the Miami Open semifinals on Thursday, becoming the oldest player to reach this stage in an ATP Masters 1000 event since the series began in 1990.
The 37-year-old Serbian star defeated American Sebastian Korda 6-3, 7-6(4) in a quarterfinal clash that was postponed from Wednesday. Showing no signs of slowing down, Djokovic displayed his trademark resilience and finesse, wrapping up the match in just under 90 minutes.
“I’m getting great support,” Djokovic said after his victory. “I feel I have a really good chance to go all the way here. I’m playing the best I have in some time.”
Djokovic is eyeing his seventh Miami Open title and his milestone 100th professional title overall. Standing in his way is Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov, whom he will face in Friday’s semifinals. Djokovic holds a commanding 12-1 record against the 33-year-old Dimitrov, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the upcoming match.
Earlier in the day, third-seeded American Taylor Fritz battled past Italy’s Matteo Berrettini in a thrilling encounter, winning 7-5, 6-7(7), 7-5. Fritz will face Czech teenager Jakub Mensik, who is making his first appearance in a Masters 1000 semifinal.
As the competition heats up, all eyes are on Djokovic to see if he can continue his historic run and capture yet another title in his illustrious career.
