Sliding Races to Be Held in 2026 Milan cortina on Newly built Track

Milan-Cortina 2026: Sliding Races Confirmed on Shiny New Track

The excitement for the 2026 Winter Olympics just got a boost! Andrea Varnier, CEO of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Games, has confirmed that the thrilling sliding races will indeed take place in Italy on a newly built track in Cortina d’Ampezzo.

There had been doubts about whether the track could be completed in time, given that construction began just over 300 days ago. However, those doubts were put to rest after the track underwent successful testing last week. Both the International Bobsled and Skeleton Federation and the International Luge Federation gave it a thumbs-up, declaring the pre-homologation process a success.

“Last week was a very important landmark because we’ve been expecting this for a long time,” Varnier said. “A lot of people had doubts that we could make it in just over 300 days to build a sliding track. The pre-homologation went very well, and now we’re looking forward to the actual homologation that will happen in the fall.”

With the final approval from the International Olympic Committee expected soon, athletes and fans can look forward to exciting bobsleigh, skeleton, and luge events in the breathtaking backdrop of the Italian Alps.

“But I can say that the pre-homologation was the most important step in this process,” Varnier added. “Now, we have absolutely no doubt that the sliding sports will happen in Cortina.”

The successful completion of the track not only showcases Italy’s commitment to hosting a spectacular Winter Olympics but also promises exhilarating competitions for winter sports enthusiasts worldwide.
