Incumbent Wada President Banka Set to Be Re elected in May

WADA President Witold Banka Set for Unopposed Re-Election

World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) President Witold Banka is poised to secure a second term unopposed, as the organization announced he is the sole candidate for the upcoming election on May 29. Banka, who has led WADA since January 2020, submitted his re-election application and faces no challengers.

If re-elected, Banka’s new term will span three years, starting from January 1, 2026, and concluding at the end of December 2028. His continued leadership is anticipated to further WADA’s mission in promoting clean sport and combating doping worldwide.

Joining him is incumbent Vice-President Yang Yang, also set for unopposed re-election. A former Olympic champion, Yang has served alongside Banka since their terms began, bringing valuable athlete insight to the agency’s initiatives.

The election will take place during WADA’s virtual foundation board meeting. The unopposed candidacies of both leaders highlight a strong endorsement from the global anti-doping community.

Young athletes and sports enthusiasts in the Global South and beyond are watching closely, as WADA’s leadership plays a crucial role in shaping the future of fair competition on the world stage.
