Chen Yuxi Triumphs Over Quan Hongchan in Thrilling 10m Platform Final
In an electrifying showdown at the World Aquatics Diving World Cup in Windsor, Canada, China’s Chen Yuxi claimed gold in the women’s 10-meter platform final, edging out her teammate Quan Hongchan.
The competition was fierce from the start, with both divers showcasing exceptional talent. Chen faced an early setback, falling behind by 15.8 points after an error on her second dive. Undeterred, she rebounded impressively in the third round, scoring 84.15 points. Quan maintained her lead with a slightly higher score of 86.40 points, extending her advantage to 18.05 points.
The turning point came in the fourth round. Both athletes performed the same dive, but Chen executed it flawlessly, earning a remarkable 92.40 points. Quan, hindered by a flawed entry, managed only 64.35 points, allowing Chen to overtake the lead.
In the final round, both divers matched scores with 86.40 points each. Chen’s comeback secured her the gold with a total of 417.55 points, finishing just 10 points ahead of Quan, who took the silver medal.
“I was nervous at first, but I focused on my techniques and made some adjustments,” Chen reflected after her victory. “I’m satisfied with my performance here.”
Quan expressed contentment with her results, saying, “I’m happy with how I performed in this competition and the previous one in Mexico. This exceeded my expectations, as I haven’t done this well in training.”
China continued its dominance in other events. Olympic champions Chen Yiwen and Chang Yani secured gold in the women’s synchronized 3-meter springboard final with a score of 312.54 points, finishing well ahead of Canada’s Amelie-Laura Jasmin and Sonya Palkhivala.
In the men’s synchronized 10-meter platform, Zhu Zifeng and Cheng Zilong topped the podium with 437.25 points, nearly 50 points ahead of the American duo Joshua Hedberg and Carson Tyler, who claimed silver.
