Some of Malaysia’s top badminton stars have opened up about the friendships they’ve formed with their Chinese counterparts off the court.

“China is undoubtedly one of the top forces in badminton, so if Malaysia can collaborate with them and learn from their training system, it would definitely benefit our players,” said men’s singles star Lee Zii Jia.

Pearly Tan, the world No. 5 in women’s doubles, praised China’s exceptional facilities. “Every stadium we play in China, the courts and infrastructure are among the best in the world. The venues are vast, the courts are top-notch, and they’re always filled with enthusiastic spectators. That’s why we love competing in China so much,” she noted.

Soh Wooi Yik, Olympic men’s doubles bronze medalist, shared heartwarming experiences with Chinese players. “When we’re here in China, our friends ask us what we’d like to eat and bring us local treats. They’re all very warm people, and we’re good friends,” he said.

The Malaysian shuttlers’ stories highlight the strong bonds of camaraderie and mutual respect that transcend competition, showcasing the unifying power of sports.
