In an unforgettable Chinese Super League (CSL) match on Tuesday, Wuhan Three Towns pulled off a stunning late comeback to secure a 4-4 draw against Beijing Guoan at home. Trailing 4-1 with just three minutes of regulation time remaining, Wuhan orchestrated a rally that left fans on the edge of their seats.
Beijing Guoan took an early lead in the third minute when Fabio Abreu’s shot, deflected slightly off a defender, found the back of the net. Abreu continued his impressive form by setting up Zhang Yuning in the 23rd minute, extending the lead to 2-0.
Wuhan Three Towns fought back in the 31st minute as Manuel Palacios unleashed a brilliant long-range strike to make it 2-1. However, Beijing restored their two-goal advantage just three minutes later when Serginho headed in a corner, leaving the score at 3-1 by halftime.
The visitors seemed to seal the game in the 69th minute when Yang Liyu ensured Abreu’s chip crossed the line, bringing the score to 4-1. But Wuhan Three Towns refused to give up.
The dramatic turnaround began in the 87th minute when Zhong Jinbao scored from close range to reduce the deficit to 4-2. Deep into stoppage time, a handball by Wang Gang awarded Wuhan a penalty, which Gustavo Sauer calmly converted in the seventh minute of added time.
The climax came in the 10th minute of stoppage time when Zhang Zhenyang headed in a corner kick, completing the sensational comeback and leveling the match at 4-4.
With this draw, Beijing Guoan remains in fifth place, while Wuhan Three Towns move up to 13th in the early stages of the CSL season. The match will be remembered as one of the most exhilarating comebacks in recent league history.
