Ju Clinches 5th Consecutive Title at Fide Womens World Championship

Ju Wenjun Clinches Fifth Consecutive FIDE Women’s World Championship

In a thrilling display of strategic prowess, China’s Ju Wenjun has clinched her fifth consecutive title at the FIDE Women’s World Chess Championship. The championship, held in Chongqing, saw Ju defeat her compatriot Tan Zhongyi with a final score of 6.5 to 2.5.

Ju, playing with the white pieces in the decisive game, adopted a cautious yet effective strategy from the outset. She castled early on move four and employed the Nyezhmetdinov-Rossolimo attack against Tan’s Sicilian Defense, steering the game toward a positional battle. Both players navigated a complex middle game with tactical exchanges in the center of the board.

As the game transitioned into a rook-and-pawn endgame, neither player could find a clear path to victory. After maneuvering for several moves without decisive progress, the game concluded with a repetition of moves, resulting in a draw. This draw secured Ju Wenjun the championship title.

This victory marks the 16th time a Chinese player has claimed the women’s world championship title, solidifying China’s dominance in women’s chess on the global stage. Ju Wenjun’s remarkable achievement further cements her status as one of the leading figures in the chess world.
