Snooker Zhao Sets Up All china Clash After Beating Jones

Zhao Xintong Beats Jones to Set Up All-China Showdown at Snooker Worlds

Zhao Xintong made a stunning return to the World Snooker Championships, defeating last year’s finalist Jak Jones 10-4 on Monday. After serving a 20-month ban for breaching betting regulations, Zhao showcased remarkable form, becoming the first amateur to reach the second round.

The 28-year-old’s victory sets up an all-China showdown with compatriot Lei Peifan, who himself caused an upset by defeating top seed Kyren Wilson on Saturday. The upcoming match promises high drama as both players vie for a place in the quarterfinals.

\”Overall, I’m pleased with my performance, especially in terms of scoring,\” Zhao said. \”This match was about regaining confidence. I won’t be back on tour until next season, so every match I play now is very important.\”

Jones praised Zhao’s exceptional skill, suggesting he could go all the way to claim the championship. \”I don’t see anyone who is playing better than him,\” Jones remarked. \”If he wins it, I wouldn’t be surprised at all, and that would be good for the game.\”

Zhao acknowledged the challenge ahead against Lei. \”Lei has played brilliantly and has shown he’s capable of winning titles,\” he said. Their match, spread over three days starting Friday, is highly anticipated by fans worldwide.

Zhao’s win contributes to a historic milestone, ensuring at least four Chinese players in the last 16 for the first time ever. Other notable performances include Xiao Guodong’s decisive 10-4 victory over Matt Selt and Mark Williams’ remarkable comeback to overcome Wu Yize 10-8.

Meanwhile, 2016 runner-up Ding Junhui holds a 6-3 lead over debutant Zak Surety in their opening round match. The winner will face either defending champion Luca Brecel or Ryan Day in the next round.
