Chengdu, China—Excitement is building as the 100-day countdown begins for the 12th edition of The World Games, set to take place from August 7th to 17th in the vibrant city of Chengdu. The milestone was marked on Tuesday, signaling the final phase of preparations for this global sporting event.
Li Jing, vice chairperson of the Organizing Committee and vice minister of the General Administration of Sport of China, led a conference to update the media on the latest developments. “We are diligently working to ensure that every detail meets international standards and reflects the spirit of unity and excellence,” Li Jing stated.
The World Games will showcase an impressive lineup of 34 major events, 60 sub-events, and 255 minor events, offering a diverse array of sports that are not included in the Olympics. The venue layouts have been finalized, with 21 out of 27 sites receiving significant upgrades to accommodate athletes and spectators alike. To ensure everything runs smoothly, 25 test events have been organized to put facilities and operations through their paces.
The host nation is set to have a strong presence, with approximately 330 Chinese athletes expected to compete. The Chinese delegation will be the largest at the Games, reflecting the country’s commitment to promoting sports and fostering international exchange.
