China Sweeps Past Japan to Reach Sudirman Cup Final in Xiamen

China advanced to the Sudirman Cup final after a commanding 3-0 victory over Japan in Xiamen, southeast China’s Fujian Province, on Saturday morning.

The hosts are now set to chase a historic fourth consecutive title, awaiting the winner of the other semifinal between South Korea and Indonesia.

The mixed doubles pair Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping gave China an early lead with a straight-sets win, defeating Arisa Igarashi and Hiroki Midorikawa 21-11, 21-17.

World No. 1 Shi Yuqi extended China’s advantage by overpowering Kodai Naraoka 21-8, 21-16 in the men’s singles.

In the women’s singles, Olympic gold medalist Chen Yufei showcased resilience by coming from behind to beat Akane Yamaguchi in three thrilling games.

Yamaguchi started strong, leading 8-2 and eventually taking the first game 21-17. However, Chen bounced back decisively in the second game, dominating 21-9.

In the final game, despite Yamaguchi narrowing the gap to 11-10, Chen maintained her composure, pulling ahead to secure the match 21-16.

With this victory, China secures its 16th consecutive appearance in the Sudirman Cup final and aims for a record-extending 14th title in Sunday’s championship.
