Bayern Munich have been crowned German champions for the 34th time, securing the Bundesliga title on Sunday after Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-2 draw against Freiburg.
The result handed striker Harry Kane his first major trophy, just months after joining Bayern Munich. The England captain, who missed Bayern’s dramatic 3-3 draw with RB Leipzig on Saturday due to suspension, was among the players who gathered to watch the Leverkusen match in Munich.
Leverkusen needed a win to delay Bayern’s championship celebrations. However, Freiburg took the lead with a stunning long-range strike from Maximilian Eggestein before halftime. Early in the second half, Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie accidentally scored an own goal, putting Freiburg two goals ahead.
Leverkusen fought back in the final minutes, with Florian Wirtz scoring a spectacular solo goal, weaving through the defense before finding the net off the post. Jonathan Tah then headed in an equalizer in stoppage time. Despite their late comeback, Leverkusen couldn’t find a winner, confirming Bayern’s status as champions.
This victory marks Bayern Munich’s reclaiming of the Bundesliga title after Leverkusen ended their 11-year reign last season. Kane will return to action in the upcoming home game against Borussia Mönchengladbach, where Bayern will be presented with the Bundesliga shield.
