China Opens Women’s Futsal Asian Cup with 3-1 Win Over Australia

Hohhot, China — Host nation China kicked off the 2025 Women’s Futsal Asian Cup with an impressive 3-1 victory over Australia in their Group A opener on Tuesday. The win ignites China’s campaign as they aim for one of the three coveted spots at the inaugural FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup later this year in the Philippines.

China, drawn in Group A alongside Australia, Chinese Taipei, and Uzbekistan, wasted no time asserting their dominance. With 6 minutes and 10 seconds remaining in the first half, captain Zhan Huimin capitalized on a well-executed attacking play, seizing a rebound to fire home the opening goal.

As the first half drew to a close, Su Jiahong doubled the lead for the hosts. In a dazzling display of speed, she finished off a rapid counterattack with just under a minute left on the clock, sending China into halftime with a commanding 2-0 advantage.

The second half saw Australia fight back, and they managed to reduce the deficit with 6 minutes and 19 seconds remaining, taking advantage of a momentary lapse in China’s defense. However, China’s backline held firm under pressure.

In the final moments of the match, Zou Yinglan sealed the victory for China. Her clinical finish in the dying seconds secured the 3-1 win, much to the delight of the home crowd.

“We played with heart and unity,” said captain Zhan Huimin after the match. “This is just the beginning, and we’re focused on our next game.”

China will face Chinese Taipei on Thursday, looking to maintain their momentum in the tournament. The Women’s Futsal Asian Cup features 12 teams, all vying for a chance to compete on the world stage at the upcoming FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup.
