Chen Yiwen Secures Gold in Thrilling 3m Springboard Duel at National Championships

In a thrilling showdown at China’s National Diving Championships in Wuhan, 25-year-old Chen Yiwen clinched the gold medal in the women’s 3-meter springboard event, edging out 20-year-old rising star Chen Jia.

The competition kicked off with both divers delivering flawless opening dives, earning them identical scores of 76.50 points. The tie set the stage for a fierce contest between the seasoned champion and her young challenger.

Chen Jia took a slight lead in the second round by choosing a dive with a higher degree of difficulty, pulling ahead by 2.55 points. The third round saw the tension heighten as both athletes once again matched scores, each receiving 76.05 points.

The pivotal moment came in the fourth round. Chen Jia’s performance dipped slightly, earning her 72 points, while Chen Yiwen showcased her experience and composure, scoring an impressive 83.70 points. This dive shifted the momentum decisively in Chen Yiwen’s favor.

Maintaining her exceptional form, Chen Yiwen delivered a stellar final dive, bringing her total score to a commanding 392.70 points. Her victory not only reflects her dedication but also cements her status as one of China’s premier divers.

Speaking after the event, Chen Yiwen expressed gratitude for the intense competition. “Facing such strong contenders pushes me to perform at my best,” she said. “I’m thrilled with the outcome and excited for what’s ahead.”
