China’s national basketball team is buckling down in Beijing for an intensive training camp ahead of the FIBA Asia Cup in August, set to take place in Saudi Arabia. From June 13 to July 23, the 23-man roster will focus on both physical conditioning and tactical strategies to prepare for the competition.
The team has scheduled eight warm-up games against international opponents, including Tunisia, the Netherlands, Venezuela, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, providing diverse challenges to test their readiness.
Several domestic clubs have contributed key players to the national squad. The Beijing Ducks and Guangdong Southern Tigers each have three players represented. Notably, Hu Jinqiu and Zhu Junlong from the reigning CBA champions, the Guangsha Lions, have secured their spots. However, the absence of Sun Minghui has raised eyebrows among fans, given his impressive recent performances.
Zhang Zhenlin stands as the sole representative from Liaoning, as his teammates have been omitted. His fitness issues have been a topic of discussion, and the exclusion of teammate Zhao Jiwei has surprised many supporters.
Adding fresh energy to the lineup are first-time call-ups Lei Meng, Liu Jiuyu, and Li Xiangbo. Their inclusion signals a strategic move to blend youthful potential with veteran experience as China aims to make a strong impact at the FIBA Asia Cup.
