In an exhilarating match at Tianhe Stadium in Guangzhou, south China’s Guangdong Province, Shanghai’s women’s U16 football team secured the first gold medal of China’s 15th National Games on Tuesday. Shanghai edged out Guangdong with a 1-0 victory, marking a triumphant start to the national event.

The match was intense from the outset. Guangdong had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 33rd minute when they were awarded a penalty. However, Shanghai’s goalkeeper Bai Shuiling made a spectacular save, denying Liu Yuke’s shot and keeping the score level.

As the game progressed, both teams fought fiercely for dominance. In the 75th minute, fortune favored Shanghai as they were granted a penalty of their own. Cheng Wandi stepped up and coolly converted the spot-kick, which ultimately proved decisive.

Shanghai’s victory not only earned them the first competitive gold of the 15th National Games but also highlighted the talent and determination of their young athletes. This win sets an inspiring tone for the rest of the Games and showcases the rising stars of women’s football in China.
