From Kashgar Streets to National Team: Xinjiang Teen’s Football Journey

Fourteen-year-old Zulal Tursun from northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is turning heads on the football field. Starting his journey on the streets of Kashgar, Zulal’s passion for football has driven him to overcome numerous obstacles, leading to his selection for China’s under-14 national football team.

Zulal’s early days were filled with challenges. His parents were initially hesitant about his sporting pursuits, preferring he focus on academics. Undeterred, Zulal committed himself to the sport he loves, even transitioning from goalkeeper to defender to better serve his team.

“My dream is to join the national team at a higher level in the future and make China proud on the pitch,” Zulal shared enthusiastically. His dedication and hard work over four years have not only earned him a spot on the national team but also made him a role model for aspiring athletes in his region.
