China has made a splash at the World University Games in Germany, claiming the first gold medal of the competition. Dynamic diving duo He Yanwei and Lu Wei soared to victory in the women’s 10-meter synchronized platform event in Berlin on Thursday.

He Yanwei, a student at Beijing Sport University, and Lu Wei, representing Chengdu Sport University, dazzled the crowd with their precision and grace. The pair took an early lead after their first dive and never looked back. Their fourth dive earned them an impressive 80.64 points—the highest single-dive score in the final. With a total of 330.18 points, they secured the gold, leaving Germany with silver and the USA taking bronze.

Taekwondo Triumphs

In taekwondo, Pan Meijing from Hunan Sports Vocational College brought home China’s first medal in the discipline. Competing in the women’s individual Poomsae event in Essen, Pan showcased exceptional precision and expressiveness to earn a bronze medal with a score of 8.383 points. Poomsae focuses on form, evaluating athletes on their technique, fluidity, and power.

Pan’s success didn’t stop there. She teamed up with Wu Weikang in the mixed doubles event, where the duo clinched another bronze, marking Pan’s second trip to the podium on the opening day of competition.

Silver in the Swimming Pool

China’s swimmers made waves in the women’s 4×100m freestyle relay. The team, composed of Liu Shuhan, Ge Chutong, Yu Liyan, and anchor swimmer Ai Xianhan, captured silver with a time of 3 minutes and 38.70 seconds. Ai’s stellar performance in the final leg propelled the team past strong contenders. The USA secured gold, while Italy finished with bronze.

On the basketball court, China’s women’s 3×3 team dominated their opponents. In Bochum, they cruised to a 21-9 victory over Mongolia, showcasing skillful offense and solid defense.
