Chinese athletes made a splash at the World University Games in Germany, securing top spots in diving events and showcasing their prowess in the pool.
In the women’s 3-meter springboard, China achieved a remarkable 1-2 finish. Wang Weiying, already with a silver from the 10-meter platform and a gold in the synchronized 3-meter springboard earlier in the competition, continued her stellar performance. Leading from start to finish, Wang claimed the gold medal with an impressive score of 344.25 points.
Her teammate, Qu Zhixin, followed closely, earning the silver medal just 25.70 points behind. Germany’s own Lena Hentschel delighted the home crowd by capturing the bronze.
The success didn’t stop there for China. In swimming, the women’s 4×200 meters freestyle relay team—comprising Ge Chutong, Yu Liyan, Liu Shuhan, and Ai Yanhan—delivered a strong performance. Though they crossed the finish line first with a time of 7 minutes, 57.91 seconds, they secured the silver medal as the USA clinched gold.
Individually, Ai Yanhan advanced to the final of the women’s 200 meters freestyle as the third-fastest qualifier in the semifinals. Positioned in lane six of heat one, she was narrowly edged out by American swimmer Cavin Gormsen. Meanwhile, Ge Chutong earned her place in the final of the women’s 200 meters individual medley, finishing seventh in the semifinals.
On the track, Slovenia’s Klara Lukan set a new event record in the women’s 10,000 meters final, finishing in 31 minutes, 25.84 seconds. China’s Ma Xiuzhen finished twelfth in the race, while compatriot Li Yingcui unfortunately faced disqualification.
As the World University Games continue, Chinese athletes remain strong contenders across multiple disciplines, inspiring fans and showcasing their talent on the international stage.
