Large scale Telecom Fraud Centers in Northern Myanmar Wiped out

China Announces End of Telecom Fraud Centers on Myanmar Border

China’s Ministry of Public Security has declared that all large-scale telecom fraud centers near the China-Myanmar border in northern Myanmar have been dismantled. In cooperation with Myanmar authorities, over 53,000 Chinese nationals suspected of involvement in telecom fraud have been arrested since the crackdown began last year.

In a recent joint operation in northern Myanmar’s Tangyan area, 1,079 suspects were apprehended. This marks the first time such a significant number of telecom fraud suspects have been arrested in the region. Among those detained, 763 Chinese citizens have been handed over to Chinese authorities.

The Ministry hailed this operation as a breakthrough in the ongoing campaign against cross-border telecom fraud. Officials emphasized their commitment to maintaining high pressure on these criminal activities, particularly in areas where scam operations are concentrated.

Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant against enticing job offers overseas that promise high pay, warning that such opportunities may be traps leading individuals into criminal activities.

China and Myanmar have pledged to strengthen law enforcement cooperation to combat telecom fraud and protect citizens from falling victim to these scams.
