China’s 6th Human Space Symposium Kicks Off in Shenzhen, Spotlighting Lunar Ambitions

The two-day 6th Human Space Symposium commenced on Thursday in Shenzhen, China’s vibrant tech hub in Guangdong Province. Coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the Shenzhou-1 launch and approaching two years since the completion of China’s Space Station, the event has drawn over 800 experts and scholars from the field of manned spaceflight.

Under the theme “Tiangong Dream Realized, Embracing the Moon – Advancing into a New Era of Manned Spaceflight,” this symposium is the first since China fulfilled its three-step strategic mission in manned space exploration. As the nation embarks on new journeys in space station applications and manned lunar exploration, the conference serves as a platform to share cutting-edge research and envision future developments.

The event features keynote speeches by 12 academicians, renowned experts, and astronauts, covering topics like project development, space science achievements on the space station, and the construction and operation of the national space laboratory. Fifteen specialized forums are also set up to discuss various aspects of manned spaceflight, including common technologies, human space habitation, lunar exploration support, and human factors engineering.

A highlight of the symposium is the presentation of 351 thematic papers, with 18 outstanding authors receiving honorary certificates. Organizers have also planned a “Chasing Space Dreams” astronaut experience activity to inspire public interest in space exploration, particularly among young people.

China’s manned space program has now fully entered the space station application and development phase, steadily advancing plans for manned lunar exploration. The symposium underscores the nation’s commitment to becoming a strong space power, fostering collaboration and innovation in human spaceflight.
