The 2024 World Internet Conference (WIC) Wuzhen Summit wrapped up on Friday in Wuzhen, Zhejiang Province, China, bringing together guests from over 130 countries and regions both online and in person. The summit centered around the theme “Embracing a People-centered and AI-for-good Digital Future – Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace.”
This year’s summit placed a strong focus on artificial intelligence (AI), addressing global concerns about AI development and governance. The event aimed to promote the use of AI and digital technologies to benefit humanity and shape a better digital future for all.
The summit featured a series of signature events, including the “Jointly Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace” practice case demonstrations and the Light of Internet Expo. In addition to these traditions, four new initiatives were introduced:
- WIC Distinguished Contribution Award: This new award honors individuals and enterprises that have made outstanding contributions to the global internet sector, encouraging collaboration to promote the flourishing development of the internet industry. Seven individuals and 14 enterprises were recognized during the opening ceremony.
- WIC Specialized Committee on Artificial Intelligence: Established to create an international platform for AI cooperation and exchange, fostering collaboration among global AI communities.
- WIC Think Tank Cooperation Program: Initiated by 60 think tanks from WIC member organizations and international experts, this program aims to establish a long-term platform for academic exchange and intellectual dialogue in the internet field.
- WIC Digital Academy: The academy will host the WIC Global Elite Training program, focusing on cultivating talent in the digital sector.
Additionally, the summit released two key reports highlighting significant achievements in the development of the internet: the China Internet Development Report 2024 and the World Internet Development Report 2024.
The 2024 WIC Wuzhen Summit has set the stage for increased global cooperation in the digital realm, emphasizing the importance of AI for good and the shared future of cyberspace.
