China laos Railway Port Designated International Sanitary Crossing

China-Laos Railway Port Named World’s First International Sanitary Crossing

Mohan railway port, a crucial hub on the China-Laos Railway in southwest China’s Yunnan Province, has been designated the world’s first international sanitary ground crossing by the World Health Organization (WHO).

This designation comes after WHO experts conducted an on-site assessment from December 1 to 3, recognizing the port’s advanced capabilities in managing international public health emergencies.

International sanitary ports are crossings that meet the WHO’s guidelines as outlined in the International Health Regulations. These standards are designed to protect the health of travelers and ensure preparedness in the event of disease outbreaks.

The China-Laos Railway, spanning 1,035 kilometers, connects Kunming in China with Vientiane, the capital of Laos. Since its inception on December 3, 2021, the railway has handled over 43 million passenger trips and transported 48.3 million tonnes of cargo. The variety of goods transported has also expanded dramatically, from 500 types initially to more than 3,000 today.

This milestone highlights the collaborative efforts in enhancing global health security and promoting safe international travel.
