China’s Railway Network Transports Over 4 Billion Passengers in First 11 Months

In a remarkable achievement, China’s railway network has transported over 4 billion passengers in the first 11 months of 2024, according to China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. (China Railway). This milestone sets a new record for the country’s rapidly expanding transportation system.

China’s modern railway network continues to grow at an impressive pace. The total railway operating mileage has exceeded 160,000 kilometers, with high-speed rail lines surpassing 46,000 kilometers. This extensive network connects cities and communities across the nation, facilitating easier and faster travel for millions of people.

Over 3,300 railway passenger stations have been built and put into use, including more than 1,300 high-speed railway stations. These stations serve as vital hubs that enhance connectivity and support the country’s economic development.

The railway network now covers 99% of Chinese cities with populations over 200,000, while the high-speed railway network reaches 97% of cities with populations exceeding 500,000. This widespread coverage reflects China’s commitment to improving infrastructure and providing accessible transportation options for its people.

The record-breaking passenger numbers highlight the importance of rail travel in China and underscore the success of its investment in modern transportation infrastructure. As the network continues to expand, it not only boosts domestic travel but also sets an example for efficient and sustainable transportation systems worldwide.
