Global Experts Unite at Tengchong Science Forum 2024

The Tengchong Scientists Forum 2024 kicked off this Friday in the vibrant city of Tengchong, nestled in southwest China’s Yunnan Province. Drawing over a thousand leading minds from around the globe, including 120 academicians and 59 university deans, the forum is a melting pot of innovation and ideas.

Centred on the theme “Science – Global Innovation, and the Mission of Scientists: Empowering High-Quality Development,” the event encourages deep dives into the latest frontiers of scientific advancement. Attendees are treated to a rich program featuring keynote speeches, 11 parallel forums, and nine special events.

This year, the forum breaks new ground by introducing tracks on biodiversity and modern agriculture, life sciences and health, and the dynamic intersection of technology and finance. These additions reflect the growing importance of these fields in shaping our world’s future.

A highlight of the opening ceremony was the honoring of Prof. Xue Qikun from Tsinghua University and Prof. Xie Xiaoliang, head of the Changping Laboratory, with the prestigious Tengchong Science Award 2024. Their contributions underscore the forum’s commitment to recognizing excellence in scientific research.

The announcement of the Tengchong Scientists Forum development fund, along with a Yunnan provincial fund dedicated to the development of traditional Chinese medicine, marks a significant leap towards fostering innovation and translating ideas into real-world applications.

Experts at the forum emphasized the critical role of innovation in driving global development. They highlighted the event as a unique platform that connects scientists, educators, and entrepreneurs, fostering collaboration across disciplines and borders.

Initiated by esteemed academicians Gu Binglin, Xu Zhihong, and Rao Zihe, the Tengchong Scientists Forum is dedicated to promoting international cooperation in scientific innovation. Co-hosted by the Yunnan Provincial People’s Government and the China Association for Science and Technology, this year’s event runs until December 8, promising days filled with inspiration and groundbreaking discussions.
