China’s Ministry of Commerce has called on the United States to retract its recent decision to impose additional tariffs on Chinese products, describing the move as unfounded and a sign of protectionism.
On Monday, the U.S. government announced a new 10% tariff on all Chinese goods imported into the country, citing concerns over the fentanyl crisis as a primary reason. This comes after an earlier 10% tariff was implemented on February 1.
In response, China’s State Council Information Office released a white paper titled “Controlling Fentanyl-Related Substances – China’s Contribution” on Tuesday. The document outlines China’s strict regulatory measures and its commitment to international efforts to control drug trafficking.
The ministry emphasized that China has been proactive in controlling fentanyl-related substances and stressed that placing blame on China for the fentanyl issue is unjustified.
China urged the U.S. to correct its approach and work collaboratively to address global challenges, rather than resorting to what it called unilateral actions and bullying tactics.
The escalating trade tensions between the two countries highlight ongoing challenges in their relationship, impacting global markets and economies.
