China’s Laser Industry Soars, Breaking Global Barriers

China is making waves in the global laser industry, shattering decades of foreign dominance and emerging as a front-runner in laser technology development.

Ma Xinqiang, a deputy to the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) and chairman of Huagong Technology, shared exciting news on Saturday about China’s leap forward in laser tech. Speaking ahead of the second plenary meeting of the third session of the 14th NPC, Ma highlighted how laser technology plays a crucial role in producing 70% of components in industries like smartphones and cars.

For years, China faced challenges due to foreign technology controls. But now, thanks to a focus on innovation and hard work, they’ve turned the tide. Huagong Technology, a key player in this revolution, developed laser welding equipment for car bodies, ending a 40-year reliance on imports. This breakthrough not only slashed equipment costs by over 40% but also set a new industry efficiency record by completing laser welding for a new energy vehicle body in just 43 seconds.

These advancements have been game-changers, supporting the production of 45 million vehicles and creating over 100 specialized laser solutions for various industries. Ma emphasized that China’s laser industry has sped up its development cycle, achieving in 10 years what used to take 30 internationally.

China didn’t stop there. The country led the creation of its first international laser industry standard, contributing to global benchmarks and boosting a 35% annual growth rate in overseas markets for Chinese-developed equipment. This shift is making advanced laser technologies more accessible to manufacturers at home and reshaping the global laser landscape.

With these strides, China is not just catching up; it’s setting the pace in laser technology, opening up new possibilities for industries worldwide.
