New Hydrogen Hub: Sinopec Boosts Southern China’s Clean Energy Future

Sinopec, China’s largest oil refiner, has unveiled the expansion of its hydrogen fuel cell supply center in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, now the largest facility of its kind in southern China. The upgraded center significantly boosts the region’s hydrogen production capacity, marking a major step forward in clean energy development.

The facility now boasts a daily production capacity of 15 tonnes of hydrogen with an impressive purity level of 99.999 percent. This equates to an annual output of 5,100 tonnes, a substantial increase from its previous capacity of 1,500 tonnes per year.

\”This expansion strengthens the hydrogen energy supply in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area,\” said a Sinopec spokesperson. \”It supports the rapid growth of the hydrogen industry and aligns with our commitment to sustainable energy solutions.\”

Sinopec has been actively advancing hydrogen energy infrastructure across the country. To date, the company has established 11 hydrogen fuel cell supply centers nationwide and operates 142 hydrogen refueling stations.

Hydrogen fuel cells are considered a key component in reducing carbon emissions and combating climate change. By investing in hydrogen technology, Sinopec aims to lead the transition to cleaner energy sources in China and beyond.

The Greater Bay Area, encompassing Guangdong Province, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Macao Special Administrative Region, is a dynamic economic region with a strong focus on innovation and sustainability. The enhanced hydrogen supply center is expected to accelerate the adoption of hydrogen-powered vehicles and other green technologies in the region.
