Chinese automaker BYD has unveiled a groundbreaking fast-charging battery capable of delivering a driving range of 407 kilometers after just a five-minute charge. The new battery reaches a top charging speed of 2 kilometers per second, setting a new standard in electric vehicle (EV) technology.
At a launch event on Monday, BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu announced that the battery boasts a maximum charging power of 1 megawatt. It supports a maximum charging voltage of 1 kilovolt, a maximum charging current of 1,000 amperes, and a peak charging rate of 10C.
“Achieving charging times comparable to refueling traditional vehicles is essential to addressing concerns about EV charging,” Wang said, describing the concept as “oil-electric parity.” He emphasized that this innovation could significantly enhance the adoption of electric vehicles worldwide.
In addition to the battery announcement, BYD revealed plans to build over 4,000 fast-charging stations across China. This infrastructure expansion aims to make fast charging more accessible and convenient for EV users.
With these advancements, BYD is taking a significant step towards making electric vehicles more practical and appealing to consumers globally.
