Google I/O 2025, the tech giant’s largest annual developer conference, kicked off on Tuesday in California, unveiling a slew of groundbreaking AI innovations set to redefine the digital landscape.
Introducing Deep Think: Smarter AI Conversations
One of the marquee announcements was Deep Think, an enhanced reasoning mode for Google’s flagship Gemini 2.5 Pro AI model. This feature allows the AI to evaluate multiple possible answers before responding, resulting in significantly improved performance on select benchmarks.
Currently, Deep Think is accessible to trusted testers via the Gemini API. Google stated that it’s conducting additional safety evaluations before rolling it out to a wider audience.
Veo 3: Revolutionizing Video Editing
Google also unveiled Veo 3, the latest iteration of its Flow video editing app. Veo 3 builds upon its predecessor by generating higher-quality video content and can be prompted using text or images. Impressively, it adds sound effects, background noise, and even dialogue to the videos it produces.
Starting Tuesday, Veo 3 is available through Google’s Gemini chatbot app, exclusively for subscribers to the AI Ultra plan, priced at $249.99 per month. This subscription offers the highest level of access to Google’s AI-powered apps and services.
Imagen 4: Next-Level AI Image Generation
The conference also introduced Imagen 4, the latest version of Google’s AI image generator. Faster and more powerful than Imagen 3, it can render fine details like fabrics, water droplets, and animal fur. Imagen 4 supports both photorealistic and abstract styles, generating images in various aspect ratios and resolutions up to 2K.
Both Veo 3 and Imagen 4 will power Flow, Google’s AI-driven video tool designed for filmmakers and content creators.
Gemini Live: Real-Time Interactions
Another exciting development is Gemini Live, which offers real-time verbal interactions, camera input, and screen sharing. Powered by Project Astra, it enables near real-time conversations while analyzing video from your smartphone camera or screen. Rolling out this week to all iOS and Android users, Gemini Live will soon integrate more deeply with other Google apps, allowing features like directions from Google Maps, creating events in Google Calendar, and generating task lists with Google Tasks.
AI Mode and Workspace Enhancements
Google announced the rollout of AI Mode, an experimental Google Search feature that lets users ask complex, multi-part questions via an AI interface. This feature is becoming available to users in the U.S. this week.
Additionally, new AI Workspace features are coming to Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Vids. For instance, Gmail will soon offer personalized smart replies and a new inbox-cleaning capability.
Sneak Peek: XR Glasses of the Future
In a thrilling preview, Google showcased its new XR glasses, capable of delivering augmented reality experiences, including live language translation. “Android XR is the first Android platform built in the Gemini era, supporting devices across a variety of use cases—from headsets to glasses,” Google announced.
The innovations unveiled at Google I/O 2025 highlight the company’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of AI and technology, promising users around the world more intuitive and immersive digital experiences.
