Cristiano Ronaldo, one of football’s greatest stars, has been named the Global Ambassador for the Esports World Cup 2025 (EWC). The Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF) announced the partnership, highlighting Ronaldo’s role in bridging the gap between traditional sports and the rapidly growing world of competitive gaming.
“As Global Ambassador, he bridges traditional sport and competitive gaming, helping spotlight the next generation of athletes competing for global glory,” said Ralf Reichert, CEO of the EWCF, on the EWC’s official website.
Ronaldo expressed his enthusiasm on social media platform X, stating, “I’m proud to join the Esports World Cup as Global Ambassador—standing with esports athletes who rise above and inspire the next generation.”
This isn’t Ronaldo’s first collaboration with the EWCF. He participated in the global announcement of the creation of the EWC 2024 in 2023 and attended its closing ceremony in Riyadh. Fans can also play as Ronaldo in “FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves,” one of the 25 tournament titles in this year’s EWC games lineup.
The EWC 2025 is set to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from July 7 to August 24. The event will feature 2,000 elite players and 200 clubs from over 100 countries, competing in 25 tournaments across 24 games for a record-breaking prize pool exceeding $70 million.
With Ronaldo’s involvement, the EWC aims to elevate esports to new heights, inspiring young gamers worldwide and uniting fans of both football and gaming.
