AfDB President Praises Chinese-Built Infrastructure Projects in Tanzania

Dodoma, Tanzania — The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina, has lauded the progress of two major infrastructure projects in Tanzania’s capital, Dodoma, both constructed by Chinese companies.

During a visit on Saturday with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Adesina inspected the AfDB-financed projects, expressing optimism about their potential to transform the region.

Boosting Air Connectivity with Msalato International Airport

The first stop was the Msalato International Airport, a flagship development overseen by the Tanzania National Roads Agency and the Tanzania Airports Authority. Built by several Chinese firms, the airport spans 4,500 hectares, making it the country’s second-largest after Kilimanjaro International Airport.

“This airport is set to enhance Tanzania’s air connectivity, boost trade and tourism, and promote regional integration,” Adesina remarked. Upon completion, it’s expected to handle up to 1.5 million passengers annually.

Enhancing Connectivity with the Dodoma City Outer Ring Road

Adesina also toured the Dodoma City Outer Ring Road project, a 112.3-kilometer dual carriageway constructed by AVIC International Project Engineering Company and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation.

Addressing a crowd in Nala on Dodoma’s outskirts, he described the projects as “transformational developments” that will improve both domestic and international connectivity through reliable infrastructure.

A Bright Future for Tanzania

President Hassan expressed gratitude to the AfDB for supporting these landmark projects. She emphasized their potential to significantly boost Tanzania’s economic growth, trade, and tourism sectors.

“These developments are not just infrastructure projects; they are catalysts for our nation’s progress,” she stated.
