Egypt Unveils New Oil Discovery in Western Desert Using AI Technology
In an exciting development for Egypt’s energy sector, the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) has announced a significant new oil and gas discovery in the Western Desert’s Abu Sennan field. Unearthed at the GPR-1X well, preliminary tests reveal impressive daily yields of up to 1,400 barrels of crude oil and about one million cubic feet of natural gas from the Bahariya formation.
EGPC Chairman Mohamed Abdel Majeed shared that the well is currently undergoing testing at the production station. He also pointed to promising signs of even more petroleum in the Abu Rawash G and B formations, thanks to insights from electrical logging data.
This discovery is particularly noteworthy as it’s the second major find in this area in just three months, following another successful exploration in March. Both breakthroughs were achieved by harnessing artificial intelligence technologies, showcasing how modern tech is revolutionizing the search for natural resources.
“The Western Desert still holds many secrets,” stated Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources. “By embracing modern technology, we’re opening up new and promising pathways for exploration in mature fields.”
The newly discovered reserves are expected to add around two million recoverable barrels to Egypt’s oil reserves, strengthening the country’s position in the global energy landscape. With ambitious goals to become a regional hub for oil and liquefied natural gas trade, Egypt continues to invest in innovative technologies to unlock its natural wealth. Notably, the country made headlines with the discovery of the Zohr gas field in the Mediterranean, which holds an estimated 30 trillion cubic feet of gas.
The integration of AI technology in resource exploration not only boosts Egypt’s energy prospects but also serves as an inspiration for other nations in the Global South. Embracing cutting-edge innovations could pave the way for a more sustainable and prosperous energy future.
