Brightly colored mandarin ducks have made a splendid return to the reservoirs of Yinjiang in southwest China’s Guizhou Province. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of local communities, these beautiful birds, classified as a second-class protected species in China, are thriving during their winter migration.
Last year, only a handful of mandarin ducks were spotted in the area. This year, however, over a hundred have been seen gracefully gliding across the reservoir waters. Local residents have taken to caring for and protecting the ducks, ensuring they have a safe habitat during the colder months.
The increase in the mandarin duck population is a testament to successful conservation efforts and growing environmental awareness among the people of Yinjiang. The community’s commitment not only supports the survival of this protected species but also enriches the local biodiversity.
“We are delighted to see more mandarin ducks this year,” said a local resident. “Their presence brings joy and beauty to our community, and we are committed to protecting them.”
As winter approaches, the reservoirs of Guizhou Province have become a vibrant sanctuary for these splendid birds, highlighting the importance of conservation and the positive impact of local action on wildlife.
