Since the beginning of this year, the Chinese mainland has welcomed over 3 million entries by Taiwan compatriots, marking a remarkable 70% increase compared to the same period last year.
Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, highlighted these figures during a press briefing on Thursday. Chen emphasized that the surge in visits showcases the prevailing public sentiment in Taiwan for peace, development, exchanges, and cooperation.
“This number fully demonstrates that peace, development, exchanges, and cooperation are the prevailing public sentiments in the Taiwan region and reflect the common aspirations of Taiwan compatriots,” Chen stated.
He added that the mainland has consistently welcomed and supported the extensive participation of Taiwan compatriots in cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation across various fields.
Looking ahead, Chen affirmed that the mainland will continue to improve systems and policies aimed at enhancing the well-being of Taiwan compatriots. “We will foster closer connections between compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits through exchanges and integration,” he said.
The significant increase in cross-Strait travel indicates growing ties and mutual interests between people on both sides, signaling a positive trend for future relations.
