Hong Kong threw a heartwarming celebration this Saturday as its locally-born giant panda twins turned 100 days old. The twins, born to mother Ying Ying and father Le Le at Ocean Park Hong Kong, have captured the hearts of residents and visitors alike.
The park was buzzing with excitement as crowds dressed in panda-themed attire gathered early in the morning. In keeping with local customs, attendees received red eggs and pork knuckle ginger stew—traditional gifts shared to celebrate the arrival of a newborn.
Colorful banners and adorable cartoon images of the panda twins adorned the park, adding to the festive atmosphere. For the first time, Ocean Park hosted a live-streaming session, allowing visitors to catch a real-time glimpse of the playful cubs.
The female cub made the first appearance, stretching lazily on her bed, soon joined by her brother. The pair delighted onlookers as they snuggled and moved about, prompting cheers and smiles from the crowd. Both cubs have grown remarkably, with the female now weighing 5.3 kg and the male 5.5 kg, each having grown teeth—a significant milestone in their development.
Le Le, the proud father, also made a special appearance, adding to the joyous occasion. Kevin Yeung, Hong Kong’s Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, announced that the government, along with the Hong Kong Tourism Board and Ocean Park, plans to launch a series of promotional activities. The panda family will serve as tourism ambassadors, highlighting Hong Kong’s commitment to wildlife conservation and cultural exchange.
Additionally, Yeung shared that another pair of giant pandas, An An and Ke Ke, gifted by the central government, are in good health and expected to meet the public in December. Their upcoming debut is eagerly anticipated by panda enthusiasts and the general public alike.
