Harbin, China’s winter wonderland, has unveiled its latest icy masterpiece—a towering 20-meter-tall snowman affectionately named “Mr. Snowman.” As the centerpiece of the 37th Harbin Sun Island International Snow Sculpture Art Expo, this giant snow figure marks the beginning of a season filled with festive celebrations and artistic marvels.
Constructed using an impressive 4,000 cubic meters of snow, Mr. Snowman stands as the tallest snowman ever built in Harbin. He welcomes visitors to the expo, which this year boasts over 260 intricate snow sculptures crafted from approximately 150,000 cubic meters of snow—the largest amount used in the event’s history.
“We’ve never seen anything like this before,” exclaimed a local student visiting the expo. “Mr. Snowman is incredible, and it’s amazing to see so much creativity in one place.”
The expo is more than just a display of artistic talent; it’s a prelude to the excitement building up for the 9th Asian Winter Games, set to take place in Harbin in February 2025. Alongside the stunning sculptures, visitors can enjoy a variety of winter activities, including snow sports events and sculpture competitions, bringing a festive atmosphere to the city.
Organizers hope that these events will not only showcase Harbin’s rich cultural heritage but also inspire young people around the world to appreciate the beauty of winter art and sports.
The 37th Harbin Sun Island International Snow Sculpture Art Expo is now open to the public, inviting everyone to experience the magic of winter in a city where creativity meets ice and snow.
