Event Brings Overseas Youth and Chinese Culture Closer Through Film

Overseas Youth Embrace Chinese Culture at Xi’an Film Event

Over 30 international students and overseas visitors gathered in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, on February 27, 2025, for the cultural exchange event “China Travel With Chinese Films @Xi’an.” Jointly organized by China Global Television Network (CGTN), the Shaanxi Bureau of China Media Group (CMG), and Xiying Group, the event offered a unique immersion into China’s rich film heritage and cultural traditions.

The participants, including a visiting French student group and international students studying in Xi’an, kicked off their journey with a tour of an exhibition showcasing Chinese and foreign film posters at Xiying Group’s park. They delved into the history behind China’s first international film award and gained insights into prestigious accolades like the French Golden Palm Award and the highest honors in Chinese cinema.

The excitement continued as the group watched trailers for upcoming blockbusters such as “Ne Zha 2,” “Detective Chinatown 1900,” and “Creation of the Gods 2.” An unexpected highlight was an interactive session with an actress portraying Shiji Niangniang, or Lady Rocky, from “Ne Zha 2,” bringing the movie magic to life.

Exploring further, the students toured Xiying Group’s film museum, experienced state-of-the-art special effects production suites, and enjoyed various entertainment facilities. These hands-on experiences allowed them to deepen their understanding of Chinese cinema and its technological advancements.

The cultural immersion didn’t stop at films. At “The Longest Day in Chang’an Theme Block,” China’s first immersive Tang Dynasty-style theme area, participants marveled at traditional performances and donned hanfu attire for a fashion show. They also engaged in interactive intangible cultural heritage activities like sugar painting and lacquer fan making, gaining appreciation for ancient arts and crafts.

Throughout the day, the overseas guests shared their first impressions of China, recounting personal stories about living and studying in the country. The event provided a platform for them to connect with Chinese culture on a deeper level, fostering mutual understanding and friendship.

“China Travel With Chinese Films @Xi’an” is the first film-themed tourism tour designed specifically for overseas visitors. By using film as a bridge, the event offered a fresh and engaging way for international tourists to explore Chinese cinema, savor local cuisine, and immerse themselves in the vibrant culture of Xi’an.
