An interactive art installation titled “Shadow Lamp: In Front of the Mirror” featuring the legendary heroine Mu Guiying is captivating visitors at the “Dian Xi Yi Ben – Shadow Puppetry and Contemporary Art Exhibition” in Beijing’s Nanchizi Museum.

The installation, created by Chinese artist Li Hanxuan, merges traditional shadow puppetry with modern digital technology to present an intimate scene of Mu Guiying preparing herself in front of a mirror before donning her military armor. This portrayal offers a glimpse into the personal space of the young heroine, highlighting her humanity beyond her legendary exploits.

Mu Guiying, a prominent figure from the Chinese folk tale “Generals of the Yang Family Legends,” is celebrated for her bravery and intelligence. For centuries, she has been a symbol of steadfast womanhood in Chinese culture, inspiring countless stories and artistic interpretations.

The exhibition runs for three months, inviting art enthusiasts and cultural explorers to experience this unique blend of heritage and innovation. By bringing Mu Guiying’s story to life through interactive art, the installation connects a new generation with traditional Chinese narratives in a contemporary context.
